Here's a shout out in honor of the passing of Paul, the psychic octopus:Octopuses are smart. They can be readily trained to distinguish between different shapes and patterns. They have been observed practicing observational learning and playing. They often break of their aquariums and into others in search of food. They have even boarded fishing boats and opened holds to eat crabs.
The octopus is the only invertebrate which has been conclusively shown to use tools.
If they lived longer than their average 4 years, can you imagine how smart they would be?
